La mort de cette reine a pris d'étranges proportions:

Anne died of suppressed gout, ending in erysipelas, which produced an abscess and fever, at approximately 7 o'clock on 1 August 1714. Her body was so swollen that it had to be buried in Westminster Abbey in a vast almost-square coffin.
